Dove Spa Mattifying Gel Cream

We all know that getting your moisturiser right, is the key to a fantastic base when it comes to applying foundation. You can buy the most expensive, highly-rated make-up out there, but if your skin is dry, your foundation will cling to it. If it’s too oily, it will slide right off.

Over the years, our favourite beauty brands have cultivated a world where there are just a four main skin-types: dry; oily; combination; and normal— and I, like many others, have battled with which category I fall under— my skin is tight after being in the shower, but shiny shortly after applying my make-up; so does that means I have combination skin? Or perhaps, ‘normal’? However, as I’ve grown older and wiser, I just use what works for me, regardless of the skin-type it’s aimed at— for example, I still love my Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream and apply it every night, for skin that’s so soft the next day, even though it is super rich and pre-moisturiser, my skin is closer to being an oil slick, than as dry as a husk.

Sexy.

This is one of the best moisturisers I’ve tried in a long time.

I can’t praise this enough; it’s light and easily-absorbed, prevents shine and a little goes a long way, not to mention it’s also a great base for my make-up. I think it’s a common myth that if your skin is oily, it doesn’t get dehdryated and therefore doesn’t need moisturising— but you couldn’t be more wrong! Many moisturisers actually balance the oil in your skin and this mattifying gel cream from Dove Spa, is no exception. It has tiny, micro-sponges to absorb excess sebum and combat shine! It also has a great smell to it, which may not be to everyone’s taste, but I personally love it.

Massage At Dove Spa

When I was contacted about trying the new Dove Spa Beauty Supplement, I was also offered a treatment of my choice at one of the Dove Spas. No strings attached, no small print, not on the premise that I would write about it. No. Just a complementary, “hey, go and relax!” treatment. I had such great service though, that I wanted to share! I chose to have an aromatherapy massage and after many emails back and forth (they got booked up very quickly, but I took this as a good sign!), I was set to go to their branch in Reigate.

I arrived at the spa a few minutes early and saw that the interior was everything you’d expect from a salon – clean, white, crisp and shelves stacked full of beauty products. I filled out the obligatory health questionnaire, after being greeted by Melissa and being offered an array of beverages! My therapist, Kirsty, came to meet me shortly after and checked over my form, before whisking me upstairs to get started.

She was brilliant at explaining everything that was going to happen, which is great if you’ve never had a massage before— it’s all too easy to be left to get changed and wonder what the hell you’re meant to be doing.

I’ve only ever had a back, neck and shoulders massage before, so aromatherapy was something new to me. I was talked through the different essential oils to choose from and decided on Muscle Ease, which smelt divine— ginger and lemongrass!— and sounded like it would do the trick. The actual massage was amazing and Kirsty got rid of a lot of tension on my shoulder blades that I didn’t even realise I had! I’ll definitely be recommending it to my friends and family, for the great customer service and the excellent massage! It’s great to have an accessible spa sitting on the high street, rather than in a swanky, overpriced hotel in town.

An hour well spent!

Strength Within Beauty Supplement from Dove Spa

You know you must be getting old, when you’re asked if you’d like to try a new anti-wrinkle beauty supplement. Still, I believe that prevention is cure though, so I obliged!

The product I’m talking about is Strength within from Dove Spa. Here’s what they have to say about it:

Here at Dove Spa we have created Strength Within, an anti-wrinkle food supplement developed after more than 5 years of clinical research by a team of leading scientists, dermatologists and nutritionists.  This patent pending supplement is clinically proven to reduce lines and wrinkles, showing greatest efficacy on deeper wrinkles.

Beauty Supplement from Dove Spa*

I must admit, I was a bit dubious at first, but it actually sold out within just a few hours of going on sale, so my logic says there must be some truth behind the hype, right? Plus, I’m no scientist, but it makes more sense that deeper skin layers and wrinkles are easily accessed from the inside, rather than from the outside, where lotions and potions are only going to work on the top layers of the skin. For those of us (me included) who don’t understand all the technical mumbo jumbo, basically, your skin starts to lose collagen from around your mid-30s, resulting in those pesky wrinkles. This capsule has vitamins and omega 3 fatty acids that are going to support natural formation of collagen and nourish the skin, to combat them!

There are very, very fine lines around my eyes (which will no doubt get worse now that I have a child to stress about) and luckily I don’t have deep wrinkles (yet!), so it’ll be interesting to see how this works, as it’s meant to work at it’s very best on those deep-set buggers! I’ve been sent a month’s worth of capsules (although it is recommended that you take them for three) and will be taking them shortly, so I’ll let you know how it goes! If you can’t wait for my review and want to try them now yourself, you can buy a 28 day supply for £35, or the whole course for a reduced price of £99 at Dove Spa.
