Be A (Brave) Bare-Faced Beauty
I’m a bit of a girly-girl who enjoys make-up, cosmetics & everything under the beauty umbrella. I love creating new looks with colours, textures & embellishments, as you can tell, so the thought of going out with absolutely no make-up on at all, horrifies me! I’m not blessed with beautiful clear skin & my uneven skin tone often leaves a lot to be desired, so I always wear some kind of cover up, whether its concealer, foundation, powder or all of the above!.
However, sometimes needs must. With my recent promotion at work (hence the lack of blogging!) I’ve been working more hours & getting up earlier than any human should. 4:30am is a time where we should all be sleeping, safe & sound, not putting on a face full of make-up! And so, one morning I just didn’t. I washed my face, dried it off & didn’t look in the mirror. I went to work for 8hrs & didn’t feel any more or less confident than any other day.
This was a huge revelation for me! I probably won’t stop wearing cosmetics for years to come, as it can really be beautiful if you know how to apply it & it can completely transform you (plus, we all have bad days!), but it’s nice to know that I don’t need to turn down invites if I’ve not put anything on yet (it has been known!) or have an extra 20 minutes in bed!
How do you feel about make-up? Are you a slave to foundation, bronzer & eyeliner, or is a quick slick of mascara enough for you?

I feel naked without a bit of foundation to even my skin tone. If i’m going to work i’ll just do the face and slap on a little mascara and i’m done. A night out, or any other time I wear alot. I love the stuff.
I’m the complete opposite, I feel odd if I’m wearing makeup! I’m usually barefaced for work (except for a bit of Carmex), if I’m meeting people after work for some tea, I might put a bit of mascara on!
I don’t wear make up much either! I had bad skin when I was a teenager and even went to a dermatologist who told me not to wear make up except on special occassions, as it can make skin worse, not just spots but lines, blemishes, uneven tone, etc. It needs to breath. I love make up but I also love my skin feeling fresh and clean. Some days I’ll just wear a bit of lipstick and nothing else. Other days I wear none. My friends are always astounded by this and always say ‘god i couldn’t even pop to the shops for some milk without make up on!’ but I guess if you feel confident enough then go for it.
I don’t wear a scrap of makeup to work, odd as it may seem! Even if I’m going out with friends all I wear is mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow & lip gloss… and that makes me feel all dolled up! I don’t think I’m very good at being a girly girl! Truth be told, I have no idea what shades of foundation I should use, or have any idea of how to tell!
A lot of people say to me that I have such great skin I don’t need foundation (though I’m not so sure about that!), so I’m not really bothered – I had such horrible problems with eczema growing up that I never used anything on my skin, and I’m still sensitive so I tend to be a bit paranoid about using foundation and such.. so I’ve never learnt to put makeup on properly!
Mind you, I go completely pink after one drink. I glow pink through foundation (I did at our wedding and that’s the most made up I’ve been for years) so there isn’t much point anyway!
I love putting on my makeup and sometimes I’m just too lazy to do it. Either way the boys don’t notice unless I add crazy colours to the mix (extra pink lipstick anyone?). I like my bare face, it looks uneven and imperfect but I like it a lot n_n.
I go barefaced pretty much all the time.
When I feel the need to look a bit nicer or I’m going out, I do my eyes up, some lipstick and a bit of powder, but I’ve only ever had a full face of foundation on before and the next day my face was covered in a rash :(
I love wearing makeup and do so almost every day. But whilst travelling I decided that I didn’t need it all the time and I have to say it was such a liberating feeling!
I don’t wear that much make up either: just a bit of eyeliner. But I am quite terrified of leaving the house without any eyeliner. I would absolutely love to walk around with no make up.
Congrats! I used to be a slave to makeup (rosy cheeks and mild acne), but one day I just stopped, and it was great! I still wear makeup when I go out, but when I come to work I just let my skin shine through!
It’s pretty great to show off your natural beauty!
I have worn makeup every day since I turned 13, and really feel gross without it- I hate when friends are over and see me in the morning without. I’ll often hop up and put some concealer on before they wake up. But a light foundation powder and a swipe of bronzing shimmer is all I need. I love wearing mascara cos I have really long eyelashes but you know..effort. I never do my eyes and rarely wear lipstick. Gloss sometimes, in the morning, but I dont bother reapplying throughout the day!
For all the bloody Barry M eyeshadow pots I have, I can’t actually remember the last time I wore eyeshadow! I rarely even put eyeliner on these days. I often wonder if I should make a bit more of an effort but I feet a slice of catch 22 – in that my skin gets so spotty anyway, surely putting on more make-up would worsen it? But then I put on foundation etc. to conceal it. Stupid, really! It’s all down to my crap skincare regime anyway.
I don’t wear too much usually – a bit of Touché Eclat on my red bits, some pink Vaseline on my lips, a bit of mascara (I have about 5 different tubes), and a bit of Benefit High Beam. On a night out I’ll slick on a bit of eyeliner, sometimes black, sometimes in a gold or a green.
Basically, I’m glad I’m not so much of a slave to make-up, but I sometimes wish I was more of one.
